          Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Mahasarakham University is a unit in Mahasarakham University. The Internal Affairs Administration Act of 2007, established by the Mahasarakham University Council made a resolution on 21 February, 2002 to manage education, conduct research and create academic services for cultural preservation. Also, Perform tasks that focus on highest efficiency and self-reliance with the University Council. Faculty of Fine arts had the foundation to develop the role of Isan culture and arts, influential to the university. Teaching arts and humanities subjects was the main focus of Srinakharinwirot University, Mahasarakham campus. Since 1969, some minor subjects were taught in art education.

          Later in the year 1973, it developed into an Art education major. 1 painting program was opened in the academic year 1995. In 1996, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts collaborated with the Department of Music and Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Humanities and social sciences to establish the Faculty of Arts and Architecture, Mahasarakham University with 5 departments namely, Department of visual Arts, Department of Music, Department of Dance, Department of Creative Arts, and Department of Architecture. In the Year 1998, Department of Creative Arts and the Department of Architecture Separated from the faculty of humanities and established the Faculty of Architecture City plan and Creative Arts.

          By 2002, the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts was established with 2 departments namely, Department of Visual Arts and Department of Performing Arts and Music, with aims to develop resources in all areas, such as academic staff, Non-academic staff, and teaching materials for various studies. In the year 2006, there were two graduate programs, including Master of Arts Program in Visual Arts and Master of Arts Program in Music. Meanwhile, the curriculum for undergraduate courses were updated in accordance with the social situation and needs of learners. In 2007, Department of Music has separated from faculty of Fine and Applied Arts to establish a new faculty College of Music.
